I have become enthralled with the HBO show Big Love. I started watching it over 2 years ago when I finally got HBO On Demand at my house. The drama has increased exponentially with each new season and this year I am pretty much biting my nails through each episode.
It's pretty interesting for me to think that there are people in the world who have such passionate beliefs and such a different lifestyle. The interconnections between the family members are so complicated. Even when family members are mortal enemies, they have a hard time cutting ties with each other. My favorite character is Margene - because she doesn't come from a Mormon or polygamous background, it is most interesting to watch how she deals with all of the drama in the family and church. Coming from a non-religious family myself, I can kind of relate to that. They showed some rituals of the LDS Church in the last episode. It reminded me a lot of sorority rituals and secret society rituals that I have been a part of. I wonder how much those sorority/society rituals were originally based on religion. Apparently, the show has actually gotten itself into some hot water for showing the rituals, but I think it makes it all the more authentic and interesting.
The music in the show is great as well...they even have a section on the web site where you can see what songs were featured in each episode and purchase them! I am seriously contemplating creating a Big Love playslist! :) David Byrne is heavily involved in the music and even created a soundtrack for the second season.
The season finale is coming up next week (too soon - I want more!) and I don't think I've actually looked forward to watching a TV show this much ever. Anyone up for a Big Love finale party?
